My research, generally speaking, focuses on human relationships with each other and nature in the context of biodiversity conservation, resources extraction, and international development. My current research project examines the politics of safari tourism in a former "white highland" area of Kenya, known as Laikipia. I am happy to discuss this project at IDC, as well as my other work in eastern and southern Africa – including my work on oil and gas development, pastoralist livelihoods, and the Sustainable Development Goals. I have published some of this work in Geoforum, The Extractive Industries and Society, Third World Quarterly, and The Canadian Journal of Development Studies. For students or conference participants interested in political ecology, I would also be keen to discuss the merits and limitations of the field in the study of international development.
